The challenge: an ageing and fragmented network.

A stadium network that had outgrown its infrastructure. Gloucestershire Cricket was operating across ageing network infrastructure, with its operational systems, hospitality services and public Wi-Fi relying on separate technologies and management arrangements.

The stadium was experiencing intermittent network outages, while independently managed corporate and spectator networks added complexity, additional costs and limited the club’s visibility and control.

With the existing spectator Wi-Fi contract also coming to an end, there was an opportunity to rethink the stadium’s Connectivity as a whole.

Ageing infrastructure

Legacy networking was limiting performance and future scalability.

Cross (Red)

Intermittent outages

Unexplained Connectivity issues created additional risk during matches and events.

Cross (Red)

Fragmented networks

Operational, administrative and spectator services had evolved separately.

Cross (Red)

Limited control

Third-party management of spectator Wi-Fi restricted the club’s ownership of registration and engagement data.

The Solution: one network. Built around the stadium.

We began with a comprehensive network audit, looking at performance, resilience, security and the way Connectivity was being managed across both corporate and public environments. From there, we designed and delivered a unified, stadium-wide network, bringing previously separate services into one centrally managed environment.

The new infrastructure significantly improved wireless coverage and capacity while bringing previously separate networks into one centrally managed environment.

The result is simpler troubleshooting, fewer third-party dependencies, reduced Connectivity costs and significantly greater operational confidence during major events.

Tick (Red)

Stadium-wide Wi-Fi

High-density indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi designed for spectators, hospitality and event spaces.

Tick (Red)

Enterprise Networking

A new high-performance switching and fibre infrastructure across the stadium.

Tick (Red)

Resilient Connectivity

Dual internet circuits with diverse physical routes to reduce single points of failure.

Tick (Red)

Improved Security

Network segmentation and firewall policies separating operational, administrative, hospitality and spectator services.

Tick (Red)

Centralised Management

Wired and wireless infrastructure brought together into a more manageable environment.

Tick (Red)

Spectator Engagement

A custom captive portal giving the club ownership of spectator registration and marketing data.

The Outcome: infrastructure the club can build on.

Gloucestershire Cricket now has greater ownership and control of its infrastructure, alongside a simpler and more resilient platform for everyday operations and major events. The Connectivity design includes a primary 1Gbps circuit capable of bursting to 5Gbps and a secondary dedicated 1Gbps circuit for critical match-day services including live streaming, media and broadcast requirements.

More importantly, it gives the club a platform capable of supporting governing bodies, broadcasters, hospitality partners, sponsors and thousands of spectators, while providing a foundation for future digital and fan-engagement initiatives.
